About

Hey Mom!

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Kiana and what I find that excites me about working as a postpartum doula is the opportunity to support mothers through the overwhelming emotions and challenges, they experience after childbirth. Having personally gone through postpartum depression and anxiety, I understand how isolating and difficult this period can be. During this time, caring for yourself becomes a struggle, let alone looking after a newborn. The difficulty only increases if there are other children to care for as well.

When I experienced my own postpartum struggles, I was told that my symptoms were simply due to sleep deprivation. While lack of sleep can certainly contribute to the challenges, it was frustrating to be told that was the only explanation. I would attend my appointments, and instead of receiving the emotional support I needed, the solution offered was often antidepressants. While I recognize the value of medication, I firmly believe it’s essential to explore other alternatives first. Medication should not be the first line of defense.

Having lived through this, I am passionate about being able to show other women that they are not alone. The postpartum period is filled with a wide range of emotions, from overwhelming joy to sadness and anxiety. Navigating through this emotional rollercoaster can be daunting and exhausting.

As a doula, I can offer crucial emotional support, practical assistance, and guidance. I can help with light housework, like tidying up or organizing baby clothes, so that the mother doesn’t feel overwhelmed by the extra tasks. Preparing meals for the exhausted mother is another way I can help, ensuring she has the nourishment she needs without the added stress of cooking.

Being there for mothers in these ways brings me so much joy, knowing that I can make their postpartum journey a little easier and less isolating. It’s a powerful experience to offer mothers the support they need, help them regain their strength, and remind them that they are seen, heard, and supported during this transformative time. By offering emotional and practical help, I aim to ensure they feel empowered and less alone.

Looking forward to speaking with you soon!
